Hello, I'm Theo,
a Penang Freelance Photographer who would rather you forgot I was there. I photograph weddings, celebrations, portraits and the small in-between things, around the island and across the bridge. I don't do stiff poses or clever editing tricks. You get the day, the people and the light as they really were - honest photographs you’ll want to find again.

As a wedding photographer I spend most of the day quietly nearby: the nervous laugh before the tea ceremony, an aunty fixing a collar, the long table after the speeches. It could be a solemnisation at the registry or a whole day by the sea. Either way, I keep it honest.
Candles, cake, and somebody always mid-laugh.
Birthdays, engagements, anniversaries, long dinners, office parties and the gatherings that don't need a reason. As an event photographer I move through the room instead of standing in front of it, so the photographs look the way the night felt.

Portraits are slow. We walk, we talk, we wait for the light to come round the corner. I'm a portrait photographer for people who don't like having their photo taken, which turns out to be most people.
Sit wherever you're comfortable. It's alright to look away.

Every Penang Freelance Photographer prices things differently. Mine is simple: one hourly rate for everything, so you only pay for the time you need.

What types of photography and events does Theo Takes cover?
Theo Takes provides photography for weddings, birthdays, celebrations, personal portraits, and family portraits. Photography coverage is available for both private events and portrait sessions in Penang.
How much do you charge?
A flat RM275 per hour, discounted from RM350. It's the same rate for weddings, celebrations and portraits, so you only pay for the hours you need.
How many photos will I get?
You can expect around 30 beautifully edited photographs for every hour of coverage, give or take, depending on the day.
Do you charge extra for travel?
No. Travel anywhere on Penang island and in Seberang Perai is included. For anywhere else in Malaysia or overseas, I'll send you a simple quote.
How do I book a date?
Send me a WhatsApp message with your event date, venue or location, and a brief description of the occasion. A 50% deposit is required to secure your date, with the remaining 50% payable after your photos have been delivered.
How will I receive my photographs?
Every booking comes with your edited photographs in a private online gallery that you can download and share with family.
How long does it take to receive photos from Theo Takes?
Portrait photography galleries are typically delivered within 2 weeks. Wedding photography galleries are typically delivered within 1 month. Delivery times may vary depending on the size and scope of the photography session or event.
Can I request specific photos, poses, people, or moments to be captured?
Yes. Clients are welcome to share specific photography ideas, important people, requested poses, or important moments they would like captured. Theo Takes will take these requests into consideration when planning and photographing the session or event.
Do you edit the photos?
Yes. Every photograph is edited by hand with an editing style inspired by film and the way memories are remembered — a little imperfect, sometimes incomplete, soft around the edges, and occasionally bittersweet. The colours and tones are kept natural, with a nostalgic feel that makes the photographs feel like memories rather than polished moments.
Do you do posed or family group photos?
Yes. I mostly focus on natural, candid moments as they happen. I’m also happy to take family and group photos, keeping them quick, relaxed, and natural so everyone can get back to enjoying the occasion.
How far ahead should I book?
As early as you can, especially for weekends and wedding season. Message me with your date and I'll tell you straight away whether I'm free.
